CRRON COM
Technical Lead: Carlos Vinicios Rodríguez Ron
Post-Doctorate completed in 2015 and PhD from PUC-Rio in the field of Applied Electromagnetics, with studies on the characterization of broadband mobile channels, having defended his thesis in September 2009. He holds a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Military Institute of Engineering – IME (July 2003), with studies on second-generation cellular systems and their evolution toward 3G systems. He has experience in telecommunications systems, with a specialization in broadband wireless networks. As a researcher at CETUC-PUC-Rio, he worked on the development of research in broadband systems and networks and Internet of Things applications.
He has taken part in several notable projects at CETUC, among which the following stand out:
- He has presented technical results in standardization and regulation forums and in meetings with national and international public agents, especially on regulatory aspects for communications systems, digital radio, and Digital TV (meetings in the working groups of Anatel and Inmetro).
- As a researcher, he interacts with national and international public agents in order to present contributions for the coexistence of communications systems in different frequency bands (LTE with Digital TV, AMT, Aeronautical Radars, ESS and BSS satellite systems). He is currently participating in coexistence studies of 5G systems in bands above 26 GHz. Matters related to the efficient use of the spectrum.
- In projects carried out by CETUC, he also interacts with private agents in order to obtain relevant technical results contributing to Anatel and the Ministry of Communications in the areas of Satellite, Digital TV, broadband wireless communications, and Cognitive Radio, as well as the Internet of Things in 2016.
- He participates in studies for the implementation of the Internet of Things in Brazil, aiming at technical and regulatory actions in specific vertical areas, and is one of CETUC’s representatives before the Chamber for Management and Monitoring of the Development of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) Communication Systems, coordinated by the Ministry of Communications.
- He has participated as a researcher in large-scale projects at all stages, such as the conception, definition, and design of networks at the state (State of Rio de Janeiro) and federal (COMAER communications network in a project with CISCEA) levels, aiming at capacity and high availability in telecommunications networks.
- In research projects, he represents CETUC in the NIST 5G Alliance project since 2016, in the area of indoor and outdoor channel modeling and measurement campaigns for future 5G networks.
- He carries out cooperation studies with UPMC-Paris 6 and with Green Communications.
- With radio propagation channel measurement and evaluation activities together with INCT-CSF, alongside researchers from the universities that are members of the institute (UFRN, UFPA, UFJF, and UFMG).
- At WiNGS Telecom, as a partner, he coordinated projects with telecommunications companies in field services (site surveys, RNI measurement, spectrum sweeps), engineering (point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, and coverage link budgets), and the deployment of wireless network systems.
He is currently a Pronametro researcher at Inmetro-DMTIC, with a research project on broadband wireless access networks.
